QUOTE from www.hendrikvh.com ”Were you at the KKNK? I hope not. Anyway, if you were at a certain stage, any time, any day of the week, you probably saw the band “DEMO, PLEASE REGISTER”. I thought I did, until I noticed that the members of the band kept changing every 45 minutes. The MC also kept getting the name wrong. He called them Glaskas, Straatligkinders and then aKing. Come on guy.It took me a good two or three seconds to realise this, but it wasn’t the name of the band we saw behind the guys on stage. It was actually a trial version of the software Arkaos Grand VJ, used to play videos and animations on the screen during the show. The production company decided to just save the money and use a demo version instead of actually purchasing the application, resulting in the DEMO text being displayed at random intervals.I payed R2700 for my copy, because I didn’t realise that these days it’s perfectly acceptable for a professional company to use demo/trial software. When did this happen? Anything goes at KKNK, I guess.”

The judges have chosen the following 5 AV clips as winners in the third contest sponsored and hosted by VJ Loops and VJ Vault.

If you are like me and are looking to create good looking CGI animations with ease, I suggest Bryce 6.0.
Bryce is a 3D modeling, rendering and animation program specializing in fractal landscapes. Bryce is support on both mac and windows platforms. Bryce originally only created static images, but now that they have added animation the game has changed. Besides creating landscapes, you can create complex animations to your hearts desire. See examples below.
Bryce allows for beginners to create landscape fly throughs with ease. If you have used Bryce in the past, you will be glad to know that the interface has basically remained the same. The last time I used Bryce was in 1997 and I was able to pick it back up within a few minutes
You can create complex terrains, mountains, and sky scenes, you can animate almost every aspect of the scene – want clouds to fly past – no problem. You can also create outer space scenes, and of course great looking landscapes. basically anything you can think of, it can be created. I personally like to create architectural models, but do what you want. You can import, pictures, logos, etc to spice up your scene – See the train station animiation – It has vjvault.com logos on the buildings. Once done creating your masterpiece, you can export into your VJ library using the settings of your choice.
To add more realism to your Bryce scene, you can user Daz 3d Studio and the best part of it is that’s its free. Use Daz Studio to import animated people and scenes.
Here are some of the animations I created using Bryce 6. If you like them, please leave a comment below.
I was able to create the tunnel scenes by just creating a hollow tube, adding some texture and creating two key frames for the camera movement. I would recommend having a fast computer since the renders can be time consuming. I usually let the renders run overnight Another feature is network rendering. You can use your spare computers to assist in the renders. It works on both mac and windows. I found this option to work well. I went crazy and hooked up all my extra systems as render farms. At the height of the operation I had seven systems rendering data chunks all at once.
From the DAZ 3D Studios website
“Bryce 6 provides you with the tools to literally create a world of your own. Make your scenes more realistic by combining imported animations with your Bryce 6 scenes to create seamless productions of environments populated with human figures, animals and other characters. With improved support of animations created in DAZ|Studio software, included free with Bryce 6, you can place your characters directly into your Bryce 6 scenes and have them walk and talk right before your very eyes. “
Bryce 6 comes with an unconditional 30 day money-back guarantee.
Check out Bryce 6. Overall I give Bryce 6.0 4.5 out of 5 stars for ease of use and overall finished content look.
The only downfalls of the software are that it starts to act sluggish once you start to add many objects. Also the object manipulation if not as strong as I would like it to be. Another wise tip is to save and save often. Every rare moon you will find that your original model file will sometimes be corrupted. Also be sure to create back up files before adding new objects and animations. Sometimes it can be difficult to undo your changes when the scene is littered with many objects.
The main software costs $99.95 USD. After that you can go for the add on – they range from free to $30.00. The average price for custom scenes is $10.00 – $15.00. Custom scenes include space scenes, buildings, people, etc. Check out the add ons here So download it now and happy 3Ding. We want to see your creations uploaded to VJVault.

If you’re a VJ, on a tight budget and already hanging out on the Windows-Platform you should definitely check out Sony Vegas little sibling called Movie Studio for Content Generation. why? i give u 10 reasons, listen up:
1. A Timeline to beat
unlike most other video editors out there, Vegas Movie Studio has a timeline that can be set to the tempo of an audiotrack in terms of a bpm value.
2. Get on the Grid
With a Grid of measures, bars and even notes you can snap your videoclips absolutely tight to the timeline. Dance music usually revolves around the same bpm during a dj set, so depending on the music stlye u can easily create a bunch of beatmatched clips that automagically work great in your show once u’re locked onto the beat
quite extensive and entertaining Tutorial on Beatsyncing by Troley, made for Sony Vegas, works with Movie Studio too
3. No Speed Limits
if your clip is too long or too short to fit the measures of a beat, no problem. just hold the controlkey and size the clips to the right length on the grid. Beware of the physical limits tho, stretching a very small clip over a great amount of time will make it reaaaaaaal slow and not too goodlooking either.

4. Crossing over
Besides cutting clips the hard way, u can also set smooth transitions to the beat by just crossfading clips on the timeline or if u’re more into showing off, use of the two hundred videotransitions or effects already on board. Of course, all Videoeffects and Transitions can be previewed in realtime.

5. Still life.
You’re not limited to moving pictures in the creative process, work with stills the same way as with videoclips, but don’t start looking
for any kind of speed controls here
6. Still Animation
Still, it’s possible to set stills in Motion, using the Key-Frame Features: you can easily move and zoom between various postions at varying speed simply by putting Keyframes on a timeline. High-resolution material is highly recommended while animating stills, especially when you’re doing a lot of zooming here.

7. Interaction.
Vegas little sibling may not have all the bells and whistles when it comes to complex compositions with interacting videolayers. still you can have basic interaction between videoclips on different videotrack with the masking and colorbased keying features. You can also manipulate the transparency of every video track with a little help from the video envelope.

8. Exposure
When the final results of your hard videowork are ready to make a lasting impression on the outside world, you find all the necessary export options inside of Vegas Movie Studio: export your clips for vj-performance, burn a DVD with the included DVD-Architect Software or directly upload to your youtube account, whatever suits your fancy.

9. Soundscapes
the history of Vegas Movie Studio shows in it’s audio-features, where u get far more than the usual: you work with audio no different than with video, you can cut, paste trim & stretch your material always in sync to the bpm timeline. And on top of that you can add your own vst-audio effects or create submixes with the Auxiliary and Effects-Bus tracks. And if you’re really an Audio-Buff you did of course understand the last sentence

10. bang for the buck
One might wish for some features that are actually missing in the entry level version like serious color correction tools and of course more just than four video tracks. But hey, there ist always Vegas Pro, right?
Some people seem to have problems with the way things are organised within the Vegas family and complain about a “steep learning
curve”. Vegas has come a long way and started off as an audio multitrack software and maybe that’s why it appeals instantly to
people with a music software background, but not necessarily to the traditional video editor.
But the best reason for shelling out money for Vegas Movie Studio is of course it’s pricetag: try to get another videoedit software for 55 US-$ with the same features and get back to me when u found it
in the meantime why not have a free testdrive with the 30 Day Trial of Sony Vegas Movie Studio?
